Christmas in NYC: Theatre & Ballet

I know what you are thinking, "It's not even Fall and you are talking about Christmas?!" However, if you want to have a lovely Christmas in NYC, you must plan ahead and book your entertainment now before everything is sold out.

If you love Broadway, the classic tale of a boy named Ralphie and his official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle is coming to the Great White Way during the holiday season in musical form. So, instead of watching A Christmas Story all day long on TBS you can see it live on Broadway and get your fix. Although, I will probably indulge in both this year. I'll be sure to report my review of this musical when I see it in December.

A classic way to spend Christmas in NYC, is attending the NYC ballet for their annual performance of The Nutcracker. As a little girl, I always watched Baryshnikov's The Nutcracker on my mix VHS tape and got lost in the magical dance of the sugar plum fairy. I'm sure I tried to mimic Clara defending the Nutcracker against the evil Mouse King in my bedroom.

The costumes and over all production of this masterpiece are always so fresh and stunning at every turn.  While there is of course a big influence of Christmas in the costuming and set design, it's also very unique in the approach and not obvious. They use candy, sparkles, and snow to evoke this magical world as well.

Seeing all of these pictures and reminiscing of my childhood days of dancing and dreaming definitely makes me want to create a new wardrobe of ballet clothing from Dance Direct and give it the old college try again.

I can try, or I can just get these leg warmers and dance around the house however I please as I mop the floors. No pressure- Cue Music!

  1. I am so jealous. I love A Christmas Story, but my hubs can't stand it so I usually don't get to watch it. I will get to see the Moscow Ballet perorm the Nutcracker, but I am sure it won't be like the NYC ballet.
